FAQ

What is Fishtastic?

Fishtastic is a stainless-steel fish cooking timer tool that helps you cook perfectly tender, flaky fish every time. Simply insert the gauge into the thickest part of your fillet or steak, and the red line will show you exactly how long to cook it. It’s based on the proven Ten-Minute Rule and works for baking, grilling, broiling, and more. No guesswork - just measure, cook, and enjoy.

How to Use Fishtastic?

Insert the Fishtastic gauge gently into the thickest part of your fish fillet or steak. The red line on the rod will indicate how many minutes to cook. That's it—measure, set your timer, and cook confidently.

Does Fishtastic work on all the cooking Method?

Yes, Fishtastic takes the guesswork out of cooking fish. No matter how you cook it. Whether you’re grilling by the fire, baking in the oven, pan-searing on the stove, air frying, or deep frying, this handy tool gives you the right cook time based on the fish’s thickness. Just slide, measure, and cook to perfection every single time.

Does Fishtastic work on all types of fish?

Absolutely. Fishtastic works on all popular fish types, including: Salmon, Tilapia, Trout, Tuna (fresh), Halibut, Cod, Catfish, Seabass, Mahi Mahi, Alaska Pollock, and more.

What is the Ten Minute Rule for Cooking Fish?

Cook fish for 10 minutes per inch of thickness—regardless of the cooking method. It works whether you’re grilling, baking, broiling, or poaching. Fishtastic is built around this rule, making it easy to get perfect results every time.

Does Fishtastic work onfish steaks as well as fillets?

Yes! Fishtastic works great on both fish steaks and fillets.

Can Fishtastic work on frozen Fish or just out of the refrigerator?

No. For accurate results, make sure your fish is brought to room temperature before measuring and cooking. Let thawed fish sit out for 20–30 minutes after removing it from the refrigerator.

Can I use a microwave to cook fish?

Microwave is not ideal for cooking fish if you're aiming for the best texture and flavor. Microwaves often cook unevenly and can easily dry out or overcook the fish. If you do use one, make sure to cover the fish, use a lower power setting, and check frequently to avoid overcooking. For best results, we recommend using an oven or stovetop methods like grilling, poaching, or pan-searing, which give you more control and better taste.

Can I adjust the way the rod slides of Fishtastic Gauge?

Yes. You can slightly bend the body of the tool to adjust how the rod slides. Just be careful not to over-bend it.

If I don’t like my Fishtastic can I return it?

Yes! We offer a 60-day money-back guarantee.

If you’re not satisfied for any reason, return your Fishtastic within 60 days—including shipping and we’ll refund you in full.

Is there a warranty?

Yes! Fishtastic comes with a lifetime warranty. We use high-quality stainless steel, and each unit is hand-assembled and inspected. If your Fishtastic ever has a defect in the rod or body due to manufacturing, we’ll replace it—free of charge.

Is Fishtastic dishwasher-safe?

Yes, Fishtastic is made from stainless steel and is dishwasher safe. For best care, rinse after each use and dry thoroughly.

Can I reuse Fishtastic during cooking?

Yes! Once you’ve measured your fish with Fishtastic and noted the cook time, remove it before cooking. It’s not designed to stay in the fish during cooking, especially in the oven or on the grill.

Can I use Fishtastic with shellfish like shrimp orscallops?

Maybe, although Fishtastic is designed specifically for fish fillets and steaks, we have found it works on crabcakes and seems to work pretty good on shrimp.  We need to accumulate more data though before claiming it will also work every time on seafood other than fish.

Do I need to adjust cooking time for stuffed fish orfoil-wrapped packets?

Yes. If your fish is stuffed, wrapped in foil, or cooked “en papillote” (in parchment), it may take slightly longer. Fishtastic gives you a base time, but you may want to add 2–3 extra minutes depending on how tightly it's wrapped. Same goes for cooking fish in any type of liquid or deep sauce.

What’s the best way to check if my fish is fully cooked?

Use the cooking temperatures and times (on room temperature fish) as prescribed by Fishtastic. A perfectly cooked fish
should be opaque, flake easily with a fork, and reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C). Fishtastic guarantees that
you will hit that sweet spot without overcooking.

What if my fillet has dramatically uneven thickness?

If your fillet is thicker on one end, use Fishtastic to measure the thickest part. That way, the thickest section cooks through properly. You can also fold the thin end under slightly or protect it with foil to prevent overcooking.

What if I like my Tuna a little pink in the center?

Reduce the cook time specified by Fishtastic by about 10% to 15%.
